About the experience

Experience the excitement of driving a powerful HGV in Eddie Stobart style at an off-road training centre near Exeter, Devon, with just a regular driving license. These impressive vehicles weigh 44 tonnes, are 55 feet long, and boast 460 bhp with a 12-speed automatic gearbox! Your adventure starts with a meet-and-greet with your truck and instructor. After a passenger ride in the cab where you’ll learn about the vehicle, you’ll receive a safety briefing before getting behind the wheel for approximately an hour of driving, supported by your instructor. The expansive airfield allows you to drive without the distraction of other road users. You’ll practice tight cornering, a slalom course, reversing, and lane changing, and may even learn to uncouple the 45-foot trailer. Fuel is included in the price, so there is no need to worry about refuelling, even though these lorries average just six miles per gallon!

Suitable For

The minimum age is 18 years, and drivers must have a full, valid driving licence
Minimum height is 5'2"
Please wear flat-soled shoes or trainers

The venue is an ex-airfield site near Honiton in Devon, with easy access via the M5/A303/A30

Restrictions

Minimum Age: 18 years

Spectators

Up to five spectators can come and watch
They can take turns to ride in the spare cab seat whilst the driving takes place
There are no refreshment or toilet facilities on site, although facilities are nearby

Driving an articulated lorry is something Ive wanted to do for ages and Im so glad I did, it was fantastic. Steve was great at explaining how to drive it and perform the different manoeuvres and built up my confidence during the session. I enjoyed it so much that Im seriously considering getting my LGV Licence and doing it as a job. If you enjoy driving have a go you wont be disappointed.

The venue was not the easiest to find, but, the actual experience was excellent. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable, and made me feel at ease. I was a little bit undecided as to whether I would really enjoy it, but it was actually the best thing that I have tried to date, and this was largely down to the instructor.I would most definitely recommend this experience.

this was a 70th birthday gift from my family. Used 8 of the 16 gears, drove through slalam course, reversed round corners. Brilliant instructor. Wife took photo of me with lorry and certificate Thoroughly recommend.

My brother David and I went to Exeter and both had a go at truck driving. Steering the huge yellow articulated lorry around the training road layout, through traffic lights and junctions and round roundabouts was great fun. Reversing straight up the road and stopping on a line was a challenge and we tried to better each other at. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to drive on the biggest trucks on the road.

The HGV experience was a surprise for my wife, who has always wanted to learn to drive such vehicles. I searched high and low for an HGV experience where the driver actually got a proper go at driving a full size articulated lorry. After viewing many experiences that offer 15 or 20 minutes at best, this one was a whole hour it was exactly what I wanted. Roy, the instructor was first class and the session on a disused airfield included, forward including at speed, slalom, reversing round corners and parking. The whole experience was fantastic and definitely recommended. Also to note, my wife is only 5 foot 1 inch tall and many of the other experience providers said she was too short to drive HGV What nonsense. Into The Blue checked this with the provider in advance and confirmed we were OK and Roy confirmed this on the day. If you are not tall check.

This was one of the best driving experiences Ive done. Roy was absolutely fabulous and the cone course he set up really made it challenging and fun. Some driving experiences only give you a few minutes or a small number of laps , but this was a full hour of driving time . Cannot recommend enough

A very enjoyable experience. Driving instructor very pleasant instructions extremely good. As Im an ex HGV driver not been behind the wheel for over fifteen years it didnt take me too long to get in the swing. Roy the instructor let me have free range in and out of cones best of all reversing into a tight spot . I did this several times and was elated when I manages a perfect reverse.A very enjoyable hour in a lorry type Id not driven before with perfect instructions.My wife rode in cab with us and was very happy, especially with help getting in and out from RoyAll I all a enjoyable 80th birthday present from our son.
