You'll be wearing a headset so that you can talk over the intercom - a helmet may be necessary depending on the microlight you choose to fly. The instructor will taxi the aircraft to the runway and run through the controls for your benefit. Once airborne, the control will be passed to you - you are free to fly the aircraft for as long as you want (within the lesson time). The instructor will land and then its off for a well deserved cup of tea.
